An electrical crimp is a type of solderless electrical connection
Crimp connectors are typically used to terminate stranded wire. The benefits of crimping over soldering and wire-wrapping include: A well-engineered and well-executed crimp is designed to be gas-tight, which prevents oxygen and moisture from reaching the metals (which are often different metals) and causing corrosion. Because no alloy is used (as in solder) the joint is mechanically stronger. Crimped connections can be used for cables of both small and large cross-sections, whereas only small cross-section wires can be used with wire-wrap
In the first step of crimping, the terminal is inserted into the crimp tool. In the second step, the wire is inserted into the terminal.
In the third step, the handles of the crimp tool are squeezed together, compressing and reshaping the terminal until it is cold-welded onto the wire. If executed properly, the middle of the crimp will be swaged or cold-formed. According to one of the crimp tool manufacturers, the development of standardized crimp tools and procedures occurred on this timeline. 1940's All terminations were soldered (Hard-wired). 1953 AMP introduced Crimp Barrel Terminals. 1957 Cannon Brothers experimented with Machined Contacts with Crimp Barrels. 1960 Buchanan introduced the MS3191-1 4 Indent Crimp Tool with a Ratchet. 1963 MS3191-1 was published as the first Crimp Tool Standard. 1965 MS3191-4 introduced by Daniels Manufacturing Corporation.

How To - install an inexpensive set of 4 wire Kelvin Clips to our new DER EE DE-5000 Handheld LCR Meter capable of 4 Wire Measurement.

We found for precise measurements like low ESR, Ohms etc that true 4 wire was needed and I could not just calibrate my Fluke Meter leads in the LCR meter. It fails calibration (leads too long?) and the leads have 0.2 ohms of resistance which can be accounted for mathematically unless you need higher resolution hence the need for 4 wire measurement.

Adding some test leads to Electronic Component Tester, Transistor Tester LCR Meters M328.
These M328 All-in-One Testers work great testing most components but don’t work well measuring precise measurements like ESR with the test leads added due to the increased resistance of leads and contact points (as should be expected). We compared some large capacitor readings with our DE-5000 LCR Meter with 4 Wire Kelvin Clips. The newly added test leads work fine testing Transistors, Diodes, SCRs, Triacs, Capacitors, Inductors, Resistors, Potentiometers, LEDs, Bipolar LEDs, FETS, etc


Purchased the plexiglass kit electronics component tester online at amazon for $15 but eBay has them as well. Bought the DROK Multifunction Transistor Tester from Amazon for around $30.

Inexpensive Kelvin Clip Test Leads Inspected & Reviewed for LCR 4 Wire U...

We inspect and review two sets of inexpensive Kelvin Clip Test Leads we plan to use to upgrade our LCR meter 4 Wire Kelvin Clips (See Video). Both these sets of test leads are true 4 wire test leads and the BNC connector is properly shielded and terminated. I have read many reviews that some Kelvin clips are not shielded properly and fail calibration test on LCR meter. We fully tested these before upgrading out LCR Meter Kelvin clips.

After showing a co-worker my homemade diy laptop stand I was shown his commercially available portable computer workstation by Utilishelf, which was pretty nice but a little large for my purpose. Perhaps in the future Utilishelf will make a smaller more compact version portable laptop table.

Emily Unboxing the DER EE DE-5000 LCR Meter & English Manual

Emily unboxes my new Handheld LCR (ESR) Meter the DER EE DE-5000.

I am eager to try out the ESR, Dissipation Factor, Quality Factor and Phase Angle test features on some old and new large electrolytic capacitors from elevator drives. (D/Q/ESR/O).

This was purchased from amazon from the seller DER EE Electrical Instrument as a bundle package for $125 but apparently has been rebranded and sold by different companies. IET Labs Inc. apparently has discontinued selling the DE-5000 and DE-6000 but they seem to still be selling the DE-5000 on Amazon but instead of the IET branding it has DER EE exactly as mine does.

Its all very confusing and I have read that some versions (Japanese Version) are better than others but I don’t know how to differentiate.

More accurately a “He Did” than a step by step “How To” assemble the plexiglass housing in this Multifuntion Meter DIY Kit Mega 328 Graphic Transistor Tester LCR ESR Meter.

There are several versions of this and similar All In One tester but we found this one for $15.50 shopping online at amazon and it came with a plexiglass housing which we wanted. We added velcro to secure that battery.  Other than that we are pleased with the value.
