IPM IGBT Dual Pack Quick Test Diode

A quick video on how to test the Freewheel Diodes on IPM IGBTs.  For an in depth explanation of the test and how to test the Gate Junctions see our upcoming video on IPM IGBT Test Explained. Click here to Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/KGittemeier?sub_confirmation=1

IGBT IPM Intelligent Power Module Diode and Junction Test Procedure using a DMM.

Single Pack IPM IGBT:
Meter on Diode Test Mode
BLK to C, Red to E = 0.5v +/-, swap = OL
Meter on Resistance Mode (Ohms)
E to Pin 4 = 0 Ohms

Dual Pack IPM IGBT:
Meter on Diode Test Mode
BLK to C1, Red to E1 = 0.5v +/-, swap = OL
BLK to C2, Red to E2 = 0.5v +/-, swap = OL
Meter on Resistance Mode (Ohms)
E1 to Pin 4 “P” = 0 Ohms, E2 to Pin 4 “N” = 0 Ohms

6 Pack IPM IGBT:
Meter on Diode Test Mode
BLK to P, Red to W = 0.5v +/-
BLK to P, Red to V = 0.5v +/-
BLK to P, Red to U = 0.5v +/-
Swap Leads = OL
BLK to W, Red to N = 0.5v +/-
BLK to V, Red to N = 0.5v +/-
BLK to U, Red to N = 0.5v +/-
Swap Leads = OL
Meter on Resistance Mode (Ohms)
W to Pin 2 = 0 Ohms
V to Pin 6 = 0 Ohms
U to Pin 10 = 0 Ohms
N to Pin 15 = 0 Ohms

If using Resistance Mode (Ohms) to test the Freewheel Diodes you should read over 100k (100,000) Ohms one way and read Open OL when you swap meter leads.

Any shorts or opens on diodes or opens on gates indicates a defective IGBT.
