DE-5000 Handheld LCR Meter Kelvin Clip Upgrade & Comparison (How To)

How To - install an inexpensive set of 4 wire Kelvin Clips to our new DER EE DE-5000 Handheld LCR Meter capable of 4 Wire Measurement.
The standard TL-21 Kelvin Clips that came with the LCR Meter were not long enough or big enough for use on the large electrolytic capacitors we intend to use it on so we upgraded the Kelvin Test Leads with cheap price but decent quality and value Kelvin Clips purchased online from Amazon for $14.70, see info below.


We found for precise measurements like low ESR, Ohms etc that true 4 wire was needed and I could not just calibrate my Fluke Meter leads in the LCR meter. It fails calibration (leads too long?) and the leads have 0.2 ohms of resistance which can be accounted for mathematically unless you need higher resolution hence the need for 4 wire measurement.

Adding some test leads to Electronic Component Tester, Transistor Tester LCR Meters M328.
These M328 All-in-One Testers work great testing most components but don’t work well measuring precise measurements like ESR with the test leads added due to the increased resistance of leads and contact points (as should be expected). We compared some large capacitor readings with our DE-5000 LCR Meter with 4 Wire Kelvin Clips. The newly added test leads work fine testing Transistors, Diodes, SCRs, Triacs, Capacitors, Inductors, Resistors, Potentiometers, LEDs, Bipolar LEDs, FETS, etc


Purchased the plexiglass kit electronics component tester online at amazon for $15 but eBay has them as well. Bought the DROK Multifunction Transistor Tester from Amazon for around $30.

Inexpensive Kelvin Clip Test Leads Inspected & Reviewed for LCR 4 Wire U...

We inspect and review two sets of inexpensive Kelvin Clip Test Leads we plan to use to upgrade our LCR meter 4 Wire Kelvin Clips (See Video). Both these sets of test leads are true 4 wire test leads and the BNC connector is properly shielded and terminated. I have read many reviews that some Kelvin clips are not shielded properly and fail calibration test on LCR meter. We fully tested these before upgrading out LCR Meter Kelvin clips.
